ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The No. 4 UCLA women's water polo team opened its 2011 campaign with a 15-6 victory over Colorado State on Saturday morning at the Michigan Invitational. Four Bruins each tallied two goals in the non-conference tilt at Michigan's Canham Natatorium.
Seniors Priscilla Orozco and Grace Reynolds, junior KK Clark and freshman Becca Dorst scored one pair of goals for the Bruins (1-0). UCLA also received one goal from seven players. Dorst and freshman Kelly Ronimus each scored in their first collegiate match.
UCLA led Colorado State (0-2) the entire match, opening a 4-0 lead after the first quarter. Each team tallied two goals in the second period, allowing the Bruins to enter halftime with a 6-2 cushion.
The Bruins outscored the Rams, 5-2, in the third period and by a 4-2 margin in the final quarter.
Colorado State was paced by two goals from Kallie Berry and Ali Pavlik.
UCLA freshman goalkeeper Sami Hill made her collegiate debut in the Bruins' season-opening contest, totaling six goals in the cage. Colorado State's Melissa Fisher made two stops in goal.
The Bruins continue round-robin play at the Michigan Invitational against No. 14 Hartwick on Saturday at Michigan's Canham Natatorium. Game time is slated for 11:30 a.m. (PT).
