BERKELEY, Calif. - UCLA capitalized on three home runs en route to a 5-3 victory over California on Sunday afternoon in Berkeley. With the win, the Bruins improve to 30-12 (6-5 Pac-10) while Cal falls to 26-26 (2-10 Pac-10).

The Golden Bears scored first, recording three hits and scoring one run in the third inning on a Bernice Masaniai single to center, scoring Erika Racklin to put Cal up 1-0 after three innings of play.

Julie Burney tied the game in the top of the fifth inning, crushing her sixth home run of the season over the left field fence. Tara Henry followed with a bunt single, stole second base, went to second on a fly out to right by Krista Colburn and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jaisa Creps, giving the Bruins a 2-1 lead.

Cal answered in the bottom of the fifth on a solo game-tying home run by Bernice Masaniai, but UCLA re-took the lead in the top of the sixth inning on the sixth home run of the year from Megan Langenfeld to put the Bruins back on top, 3-2.

In the bottom of the sixth, Cal loaded the bases on a two-out rally with a walk, a strikeout-wild pitch and a bunt single, but Whitney Baker was able to pitch out of the jam, leaving the score 3-2 in UCLA's favor.

Lisa Dodd added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning with a two-run home run, her 12th shot of the season, giving the Bruins a 5-2 lead. Cal added a run in the bottom of the seventh on a bases loaded walk

UCLA softball has a busy week ahead with a single game in Seattle at 3 pm on Wednesday before returning home to host Oregon and Oregon State next weekend. Friday's game at Easton Stadium will begin at 1 pm with Saturday's Oregon State game at 2 pm and Sunday's first pitch scheduled for 1 pm.
