San Diego, Calif. - Fourth-seeded Riza Zalameda was one of six Bruin players to advance to the third round of singles play Thursday at the Wilson/ITA Regional Championships hosted by both the University of San Diego and San Diego State.
Zalameda, who received a bye in the opening round, posted a 6-3, 6-0 decision over UC Santa Barbara's Kristen Wilson. Joining Zalameda in the third round in the bottom-half of the draw are Tracy Lin and Elizabeth Lumpkin. Lin advanced with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Emanuelle Tabatruong of Long Beach State, while Lumpkin was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over UNLV's Claire Smith.
Three other Bruins won second-round singles matches in the top half of the draw, as Ashley Joelson downed UNLV's Mery Constanti, 6-1, 6-3, Alex McGoodwin beat Arizona's Kasia Jakowlew, 6-3, 6-2, and freshman Yasmin Schnack defeated Pepperdine's Anete Bandere, 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles, Duesler and Yang posted an 8-4 win over Cal State Fullerton's Jerusha Cruz/Katrina Domela.
