Golfers Tied for Seventh in Georgia

The UCLA men's golf team was tied for seventh place after the first day of competition at the U.S. Collegiate Championship, hosted by Georgia Tech and The Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, Ga.

The Bruins posted a team score of 299 (+11) and trailed first place Georgia Tech and Clemson (292) by seven strokes. Georgia and Wake Forest were tied for third at 296 (+8), followed by Georgia State and Oklahoma State, which were tied for fifth 298 (+10). USC was 10th at 304 (+16).

Individually for the Bruins, junior Kevin Chappell was tied for 13th place after posting a score of 73 (+1). Tournament leaders Tanner Ervin of Clemson and Chris Kirk of Georgia were tied at two-under par 70. Sophomore Lucas Lee was tied for 22nd at 74 (+2), followed by junior Daniel Im who was tied for 28th at 75 (+3). Freshman Jason Kang was tied for 45th after carding a 77 (+5), and junior Craig Leslie was tied for 53rd after signing for a 78 (+6).
