Swimming Improves To 4-0 After Wins over Oregon St. and UCSB

The UCLA swim team improved to 4-0 after posting dual meet wins over Oregon State and UC Santa Barbara on Saturday at the Spieker Aquatics Center. During the meet, the Bruins broke six meet records and posted 11 event wins.

UCLA defeated Oregon State 159-97 and UCSB 156-98. The Bruins improve to 27-0 all-time against the Gauchos and 10-0 all-time against the Beavers.

Senior Brittany Beauchan and junior Yasi Jahanshahi led the way as both posted double event wins. Beauchan won both the 100 (1:02.04) and 200 (2:14.20) breaststroke events. Both times were NCAA "B" times and the 100 breast was a meet record mark. Jahanshahi won both fly events as both performances were new meet records and NCAA "B" times. She swam 1:58.62 in the 200 fly and 54.30 in the 100 fly.

The 200 medley relay team of sophomore Emily Andelson, Beauchan, sophomore Stephanie Christofferson and frosh Kathryn Murphy was first with a new meet record time of 1:43.88.

Freshman Ting Quah set a new meet record in the 200 free as she was first in a time of 1:50.40. Senior Lauren Hall set a meet record in the 400 IM, swimming an NCAA "B" time of 4:16.01. The 200 free relay team, comprised of all freshmen (Fascella, Murphy, Bergman, Quah), also broke a meet record as the foursome swam 1:34.25.

Other Bruins posting wins were senior Sam Vanden Berge in the 1000 free (10:09.56), Murphy in the 50 free (23.70) and Cynthia Fascella in the 100 free (51.67).

The Bruins will return to the Spieker Aquatics Center on Friday, Oct. 29th to face off with Idaho and San Diego at 1:00 pm.
