Dec. 15, 2011
Los Angeles, Calif. - UCLA Head Football Coach Jim Mora today confirmed the hiring of five assistant coaches: Demetrice Martin, Adrian Klemm, Inoke Breckterfield, Marques Tuiasosopo and Steve Broussard.
"Each of these coaches will bring unique qualities to the UCLA football program," Mora said. "All of them will be integral pieces of the UCLA football puzzle from their first day on the job."
Martin will assume the title of Passing Game Coordinator/Defensive Backs with the Bruins. He comes to UCLA from the University of Washington, where he coached defensive backs each of the last three years. Prior to his stint in Seattle, Martin completed a successful season as an assistant at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut. As an assistant coach, he helped the Mounties to a 12-2 record.
Klemm, most recently on the coaching staff at Southern Methodist for four seasons, will serve as Running Game Coordinator/Offensive Line at UCLA. Klemm is a former NFL lineman and three-time Super Bowl champion who started for four years at the University of Hawai'i. He began his coaching career as a volunteer with SMU in 2008 after spending seven seasons in the NFL and winning three Super Bowls as a member of the New England Patriots.
Breckterfield returns to coach the Bruin defensive line after filling the same role in 2011. An All-Pac-10 performer during his playing days at Oregon State, he previously coached the defensive line at Montana (2010) and Weber State (2009). He also spent three seasons under Mike Riley at his alma mater, as a graduate assistant coach for the Beavers in 2008 and 2007 and a volunteer coach in 2006, working with the defensive line.
Tuiasosopo takes over as Tight Ends Coach under Mora after being elevated from intern in the football office to assistant coach for the Bruins in preparations for the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl. An outstanding quarterback at the University of Washington, Tuiasosopo became the first player in NCAA history to pass for over 300 yards and run for 200 yards in a game versus Stanford in 1999. He led the Huskies to the 2000 Pac-10 title and a trip to the Rose Bowl game. Tuiasosopo was then selected in the second round of the 2001 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders and played several seasons in the NFL.
Broussard will serve as Running Backs Coach in Westwood after having spent the last three years as wide receivers coach for Arizona State. Previously, Broussard, who played nine seasons in the NFL, served as the Running Backs and Special Teams Coach at his alma mater, Washington State University, from 2007-2009.
Klemm and Martin will join Mora's staff immediately, while Broussard will come to Los Angeles after Arizona State competes in the Maaco Bowl Las Vegas on December 22. Breckterfeld and Tuiasosopo are already on the Bruins' bowl staff and will remain on the coaching staff under Mora.
