No. 5 Women's Tennis Team Blanks Washington State, 7-0

LOS ANGELES - The fifth-ranked UCLA women's tennis team remained perfect in Pac-10 play on Friday, posting a convincing 7-0 victory over Washington State at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. With the win, the Bruins improve to 15-2 overall and 2-0 in the Pac-10. The Cougars drop their record to 8-9 and 1-2 in conference action.

Senior Yasmin Schnack won her team-leading 25th singles match of the season on Saturday, as she was nearly flawless in a 6-1, 6-0 victory over 75th-ranked Liudmila Vasilieva at court No. 1. Schnack is listed at No. 4 in the latest ITA Singles Rankings.

Junior Maya Johansson was also impressive, winning her 13th-consecutive match by beating Jackie Owens, 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 6 position.

Other straight-set winners for the Bruins were Noelle Hickey (court No. 2), Pamela Montez (court No. 4) and Stephanie Hoffpauir (court No. 5). Junior Andrea Remynse was up 5-0 in the first set of her match with Ksenia Googe at court No. 3 when Googe was forced to retire due to injury.

The Bruins swept doubles play on Saturday, losing just three total games in three matches.

UCLA returns to action at the LATC tomorrow, hosting No. 19 Washington at Noon.
