Final Stats: Illinois State 2, UCLA 1

LOS ANGELES - UCLA (12-6) split its two games on the opening day of the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament, defeating Long Beach State by an 11-0 margin in five innings before falling to No. 25 Illinois State, 2-1, in the nightcap.

Game 1: UCLA 11, Long Beach State 0 (5 innings)
The Bruins pounded out a school record-tying eight doubles against the 49ers in their first game of the day, including multi-double games from Jodie Legaspi and Jaisa Creps. The Bruins sent nine batters to the plate in the first inning, seven in the second and eight in the third, scoring in each of their four at-bats on the day.

Seven UCLA starters had at least one hit against LBSU, led by Lisa Dodd, who went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, two RBI, a walk and a double in the game.

Anjelica Selden pitched five innings of one-hit softball on the day, striking out seven and walking one to earn her seventh victory of the season.

Game 2: Illinois State 2, UCLA 1
Batting as the visiting team, UCLA manufactured its lone run of the game in the top of the first inning as Kaila Shull was hit by a pitch, stole second base and scored from second on an RBI single to left by Megan Langenfeld.

That lone run looked as if it would stand up to give Dodd the win in the circle, but the Redbirds put together a seventh-inning rally on a full-count walk to Kelsey Warning, a fielding error on a sacrifice bunt by Jessie Buker, and a second sacrifice bunt, this time by Michelle Henderson. Casey Gorrell then put a ball in play to the right side of the Bruin infield, allowing both pinch-runner Andrea Shufflet and Buker to score, leaving the Bruins on the field.

Dodd took the loss in the circle, striking out four in the game.

UCLA resumes Winsberg Tournament action on Sunday with games against Loyola-Chicago at 10 am and No. 20 Florida at 12:30 pm.
