LOS ANGELES - The No. 6 UCLA women's tennis team remained in contention for a possible share of the 2011 Pac-10 title on Friday, registering a 5-2 victory over No. 14 USC in the final match of the regular season for both teams at the Marks Tennis Stadium. The Bruins, who would earn a share of this year's Pac-10 Championship if Cal can knock off unbeaten Stanford on Saturday, improve to 18-5 overall and 7-1 in conference play. The Women of Troy close out the regular season 15-6 overall and 4-4 in Pac-10 action.

UCLA, which has only surrendered the doubles point in five matches this season, continued its dominance in doubles on Friday, taking the point with wins at court Nos. 2 and 3. After both teams traded wins at the top two courts, UCLA clinched the point when Maya Johansson and Pamela Montez downed Lyndsay Kinstler and Danielle Lao, 8-5 at court No. 3.

Playing in what is likely her final match against her cross-town rivals, 43rd-ranked Noelle Hickey turned in an impressive performance on Friday, giving UCLA a 2-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Lao at court No. 2. It was a solid win for the Bruin senior, as Lao checks in at No. 21 in the latest ITA Singles Rankings.

Although second-ranked Maria Sanchez of USC gave the Women of Troy a sliver of hope with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over McCall Jones at court No. 1, UCLA was able to follow that up with a pair of straight set wins to secure the victory. After Montez put the Bruins up 3-1 with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Alison Ramos at court No. 4, Johansson clinched the win when she downed Valeria Pulido, 7-5, 6-3 at court No. 5 to put UCLA up 4-1. Johansson is now 13-1 in dual singles matches this season.

Both teams split the final two matches to finish, as Kaitlyn Christian downed UCLA's Andrea Remynse 6-3, 3-0 (Ret.) at court No. 3, and Bruin junior Carling Seguso notched a 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 win over Cristala Andrews at court No. 6. Seguso is now 21-1 overall on the season and 14-0 in dual matches.

Next up for UCLA is the Pac-10 Championships, April 28-May 1, in Ojai, Calif.
