LOS ANGELES - The UCLA baseball program has seen six of its former players compete in Major League Baseball this season and over 30 former ballplayers continue their professional careers in the minor leagues.

Five former UCLA ballplayers are listed on 25-man major league rosters, as of Friday, Aug. 26. Those players are outfielder Ben Francisco (Philadelphia), left-hander David Huff (Cleveland), right-hander Casey Janssen (Toronto), right-hander Josh Roenicke (Colorado) and second baseman Chase Utley (Philadelphia). Shortstop Brandon Crawford spent three months playing for San Francisco.

In seven seasons as UCLA's head coach, John Savage has produced 51 MLB draft selections. Most recently, right-handers Gerrit Cole and Trevor Bauer were selected first and third, respectively, in the first round of the 2011 MLB Draft. Likewise, each of UCLA's weekend starters since 2006 have been selected no lower than the 12th round of the draft.

Four players have competed at the triple-A level, and eight ballplayers have played in double-A. Among the most successful hitters this season include Jermaine Curtis (.304 in double-A), Brett Krill (.324 in single-A) and Tyler Rahmatulla (.329 in Rookie ball).

MAJOR LEAGUERS
Ben Francisco, Philadelphia Phillies (at UCLA, 2001-2002)

  • Has batted .231 with six homers, 10 doubles and 32 RBI in 88 games
  • Currently playing for Philadelphia, Francisco is in his fifth major league season

David Huff, Cleveland Indians (at UCLA, 2006)

  • Posted a 1-2 record and 2.70 ERA in five games (four starts) for Cleveland
  • Logged 15 strikeouts, eight walks in 20.0 innings in his third major league season
  • Went 9-3 with a 3.57 ERA in 18 minor league starts at triple-A (Columbus Clippers)

Casey Janssen, Toronto Blue Jays (at UCLA, 2001-2004)

  • Has gone 4-0 with a 2.14 ERA and two saves in 41 relief appearances for Toronto
  • Recorded 43 strikeouts and 12 walks in 42.0 innings (.218 opponent average)
  • Scattered four hits in 12.0 scoreless innings over last 10 outings (since July 28)

Josh Roenicke, Colorado Rockies (at UCLA, 2003-2006)

  • Has thrown 8.1 scorelesss innings since his first outing this season (Aug. 7)
  • Scattered four hits in nine relief appearances this month with the Colorado Rockies
  • Pitched in 38 games at triple-A this year, going 1-4 with a 4.67 ERA

Chase Utley, Philadelphia Phillies (at UCLA, 1998-2000)

  • Batting .279 with nine home runs, four triples, 19 doubles and 39 RBI in 77 games
  • Missed the first two months of the major league season nursing a knee injury
  • Voted as NL's starting second baseman at All-Star game five straight years (2006-10)
  • Has starred at second base with the Philadelphia Phillies for nine seasons (2003-2011)

MINOR LEAGUES (listed alphabetically)
Trevor Bauer (at UCLA, 2009-2011)

  • In six minor league starts, has logged 40 strikeouts, nine walks in 24.0 innings
  • At double-A (Mobile), has totaled 23 strikeouts and five walks in 15.0 innings (2.40 ERA)

Charles Brewer (at UCLA, 2007-2009)

  • Posted a 4-1 record and 2.70 ERA with two complete games in 10 starts at double-A (Mobile)
  • Missed nearly two months of the season with a broken hand (sustained June 2)
  • Totaled 40 strikeouts, 15 walks in 46.2 innings

Tyson Brummett (at UCLA, 2006-2007)

  • Split time between double-A (Reading) and triple-A (Lehigh Valley) in the Phillies organization
  • Went 4-12 with a 5.03 ERA in 35 games (15 starts) between double-A, triple-A
  • Recorded 80 strikeouts, 38 walks in 112.2 innings

Alden Carrithers (at UCLA, 2007-2008)

  • Batted .267 with five triples, 16 doubles, 34 RBI and 45 runs at double-A (Birmingham)
  • Has stolen 15 bases in 18 attempts, logging a .352 OBP in 93 games

Garett Claypool (at UCLA, 2007-2010)

  • Has gone 4-7 with a 3.63 ERA, 145 strikeouts and 46 walks at single-A (Lakewood)
  • Leads all South Atlantic League pitchers in strikeouts (145), ranks seventh in innings (131.1)
  • Made 26 appearances, including 22 starts, in his first full professional season

Brandon Crawford (at UCLA, 2006-2008)

  • Batted .190 with two home runs, 17 RBI in 36 games for the San Francisco Giants
  • Since being assigned to triple-A (Fresno), batted .272 in 22 games
  • Belted a grand slam home run at Milwaukee in his major league debut (Friday, May 27)

Jermaine Curtis (at UCLA, 2006-2008)

  • Batted .304 with five homers, 12 doubles and 32 RBI at double-A (Springfield)
  • Collected 32 RBI, 39 runs in 84 games, posting a .406 OBP in the Texas League

Brent Dean (at UCLA, 2007-2008)

  • Batted .246 in 19 games, split between Rookie ball (Helena) and single-A (Brevard County)
  • In single-A, is batting .212 with one homer, five RBI and four runs in 11 games

Cody Decker (at UCLA, 2006-2009)

  • Batted .232 with 11 home runs and 30 RBI in 40 games at double-A (San Antonio)
  • Missed three months (ankle injury) before batting .344 during a 14-game rehab stint

Matt Drummond (at UCLA, 2007-2010)

  • Has gone 0-3 with a 9.45 ERA in 10 games (two starts) at single-A (Aberdeen)
  • Registered 12 strikeouts and nine walks in 13.1 innings, pitching primarily in relief

Dean Espy (at UCLA, 2010-2011)

  • Batted .299 in 53 games, totaling six homers and 32 RBI in Rookie ball (Idaho Falls)
  • Has recorded a .377 OBP, scoring 39 runs since mid-June in the Pioneer League

Niko Gallego (at UCLA 2008-2010)

  • Batted .207 in 55 games, playing at double-A (Mobile) and single-A (South Bend)
  • In 18 games at double-A, batted .208 (11-for-53) with a .276 on-base percentage
  • Through 37 games at single-A, has batted .206 with three doubles, 10 RBI

Chris Giovinazzo (at UCLA, 2008-2011)

  • Batting .333 with two home runs, seven RBI, 13 runs in 17 games at Rookie ball (Orem)
  • Also played at double-A (Arkansas), single-A (Cedar Rapids) and Rookie ball in Arizona
  • With four minor league teams , has batted .227 with a .329 OBP in 45 games

Erik Goeddel (at UCLA, 2008-2010)

  • Has gone 2-4 with a 3.54 ERA in 13 games (11 starts) at single-A (Savannah)
  • Totaled 57 strikeouts and 17 walks in 61.0 innings in the South Atlantic League

Matt Grace (at UCLA, 2008-2010)

  • Posted a 12-6 record and 4.49 ERA in 24 games (23 starts) at single-A (Hagerstown)
  • Recorded 79 strikeouts and 35 walks in 122.1 innings in the South Atlantic League
  • Leads all South Atlantic League pitchers with 12 wins and ranks 16th in innings (122.1)

Casey Haerther (at UCLA, 2007-2009)

  • Batted .299 with eight homers, 31 doubles, 66 RBI in 108 games at single-A (Inland Empire)
  • Compiled a .338 OBP and .432 slugging percentage in the California League

David Johnson (at UCLA, 2002-2004)

  • Has gone 5-2 with a 5.07 in 40 games (two starts) at the triple-A level
  • Recently acquired by Las Vegas 51s, went 5-2 with a 4.98 ERA in 36 games for Louisville

Dan Klein (at UCLA, 2008-2010)

  • Went 3-1 with a 1.11 ERA in 16 relief outings prior to shoulder injury
  • Seven relief appearances at single-A (Frederick), logging 21 strikeouts, three walks
  • Nine relief appearances at double-A (Bowie), 16 strikeouts and three walks

Brett Krill (at UCLA, 2008-2010)

  • Batted .324 with five home runs, 16 doubles and 41 RBI at single-A (Salem-Keizer)
  • Logged a .366 on-base percentage and .511 slugging percentage in 47 games
  • Ranks second in slugging (.511) and fourth in average (.324) in the Northwest League

Brendan Lafferty (at UCLA, 2005-2009)

  • Has gone 4-3 with a 3.94 ERA in 27 relief appearances between single-A and double-A
  • Went 2-3, 4.57 ERA, one save in 19 relief outings (43.1 inn.), single-A (Wilmington)
  • Has gone 2-0, 2.25 ERA, one save in eight games (16 inn.), double-A (Northwest Arkansas)

Brandon Lodge (at UCLA, 2008-2011)

  • Made 19 relief appearances in Arizona League (AZL Angels), going 0-1 with 5.57 ERA
  • Recorded 12 strikeouts and two walks in 21.0 innings

Anthony Norman (at UCLA, 2004-2006)

  • Through 40 games at double-A and triple-A, batted .267 with four triples, six doubles
  • Has batted .282 with nine RBI and 12 runs in 29 games at double-A (Altoona)
  • Batted .235 with three doubles, three RBI in 11 games at triple-A (Indianapolis)

Tyler Rahmatulla (at UCLA, 2009-2011)

  • Batting .329 with six homers, 27 doubles in 55 games at Rookie ball (Johnson City)
  • Collected 39 RBI, 47 runs, posting a .407 OBP and .575 slugging percentage

Rob Rasmussen (at UCLA, 2008-2010)

  • Posted a 10-10 record with a 3.77 ERA in 26 games (25 starts) at advanced single-A (Jupiter)
  • One of seven Florida State League pitchers with 10 victories or more this season
  • Recorded 107 strikeouts, 66 walks in 138.1 innings, eighth-highest innings total (FSL)

Steve Rodriguez (at UCLA, 2009-2011)

  • Batting .198 in 25 games as a catcher in the Northwest League at single-A (Yakima)
  • Registered a .316 OBP, collecting 16 hits (two doubles) and 12 runs in 81 at-bats

Wes Whisler (at UCLA, 2002-2004)

  • Has gone 2-4 with a 6.05 ERA in 37 games (one start) splitting time at single-A and triple-A
  • Posted a 2.49 ERA in 23 relief outings at single-A (Kannapolis)
  • Currently at triple-A (Charlotte), has gone 2-2 with a 9.19 ERA in 11 appearances (one start)

Adrian Williams (at UCLA, 2009-2011)

  • Batting .219 with one triple, two doubles, 12 RBI and 26 runs at Rookie ball (Helena)
  • Has recorded a .283 on-base percentage in 46 games in the Pioneer League
