Women's World Amateur Team Championship Update

Oct. 10, 2008

UCLA golfers Maria Jose Uribe and Tiffany Joh each helped their countries move up the leaderboard after the third round of the 23rd Women's World Amateur Championship at the Grange Golf Club in Adelaide, Australia.

Uribe carded her best score of the tournament, turning in a one-under par 72 and was tied for seventh place at 218 (E). In the third round she was even par through 17 holes before making a birdie on the 18th to help Columbia move from a tie for 14th place into a tie for 10th at 10-over par 446. On Friday, the Colombian team posted an even par score of 146 on the par 73 East Course.

Joh, also playing the East Course, posted an even par score of 73 and was tied for 24th at 224 (+7). Teammate Alison Walshe fired a four-under 69 to vault the United States into fourth place at two-over par 438.

Sweden was the third round leader at 14-under 422, followed by Spain at 433 (-3). Japan was third at even par 436, two shots in front of the USA.

The World Amateur Team Championship consists of two or three player teams competing for 48 countries over 72 holes. The two best individual scores per country are counted each day to make up the team score.
