UCLA Men's Water Polo Selected Third in MPSF Preseason Coaches' Poll

WOODLAND, Calif. - The UCLA men's water polo team has been selected third in the 2007 MPSF Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation announced Thursday. The Bruins received 47 points in the preseason poll and one first-place vote.

USC earned the top spot in the coaches' poll, gaining 59 votes and five of nine first-place votes. California was slotted second with 53 points and two first-place votes. UC Irvine, who received the final first-place vote, and Stanford rounded out the top five.

Pepperdine captured the sixth spot, followed by UC Santa Barbara, Long Beach State and Pacific.

UCLA returns three players who earned All-America honors last fall - junior Krsto Sbutega (third team), senior Marco Santos (honorable mention) and sophomore goalkeeper Chay Lapin (honorable mention). Last season, the Bruins finished third in both the MPSF regular-season standings and the MPSF Tournament.
