UCLA Golfers Tied for Seventh after First Round at NCAAs

The eighth-ranked UCLA women's golf team was tied for seventh place after the first day of competition at the NCAA Championship, hosted by Central Florida at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fl.

The Bruins posted a team score of 303 (+15) and trailed first-place USC by eight shots. North Carolina and Louisville were tied for second place at 297 (+9). Stanford (299, +11), top-ranked Duke (300, +12) and Denver (302, +14) were in fourth, fifth and sixth place, respectively. The Bruins were tied with Vanderbilt, Purdue and UC Irvine. Arizona was 11th at 304.

Sophomore Tiffany Joh, who recorded the team's only birdie of the day, led the Bruins with first round score of 73 (+1) and was tied for ninth place. Senior Hannah Jun was tied for 22nd after carding a 75 (+3). Freshman Sydnee Michaels, who won the NCAA East Regional two weeks ago, was tied for 52nd after signing for a 77 (+5). Sophomore Ryann O'Toole posted a score of 78 (+6) and was tied for 72nd. Junior Maiya Tanaka carded a 79 (+7) and was tied for 82nd.

UC Irvine's Selanee Henderson fired a three-under par 69 to take the first round lead by one stroke over Duke's Amanda Blumenherst.

Second round action continues on Wednesday. The Bruins are scheduled to tee off at 8:50 a.m. EDT. The NCAA Championship is a 72-hole tournament.
