Box Score

LOS ANGELES - Junior Ali Daley posted her fourth straight double-double, junior Nellie Spicer had her seventh straight double-double and freshman Dicey McGraw had a career-high 18 kills, as the fourth-ranked Bruins held off a game Oregon team in four. Game scores were 31-29, 22-30, 30-24, 36-34.

Daley had 19 kills and 11 digs, while Spicer posted 45 assists and 10 digs. Johnson added 18 kills with a .571 hitting percentage for the Bruins, who hit .295 for the match.

The Bruins improve to 15-2 overall and 5-1 in Pac-10 play, while #19 Oregon falls to 14-5 and 3-4 in league action.

Oregon scored the first point of the match, but UCLA scored five of the next six to take a 5-2 edge. McGraw had three kills during the run, with Johnson adding another. The Bruins still held the lead at 10-8 when the Ducks netted three in a row to go up 11-10. The score was tied four more times until a 5-0 run put Oregon ahead 20-15. UCLA got to within two on a 3-0 run to make it 21-19, but the Ducks scored four of the next five to take a 25-20 advantage.

Still trailing 27-22, the Bruins made one last rally and came back to steal the opening game. Three in a row on a kill and ace by Johnson and an Oregon attack error made it 27-25. The teams sided out the next three serves and the Ducks still had three game points. A ball handling error made it a two-point deficit and an ace by Daley cut it to 29-28. Another ball handling error evened the game as the Bruins staved off all three game points and got one of their own when a kill by freshman Katie Mills put UCLA ahead 30-29. Daley floated the next serve into the tape, but just over the net and out of the reach of a Duck to give the Bruins the 31-29 victory.

Game two was all Ducks, who never trailed. With Oregon leading 7-6, the Ducks scored four straight and six of the next seven to take a 13-7 advantage. The Bruins got no closer than five, with their biggest deficit being nine at 29-20. UCLA netted the next two to make it 29-22, but a service error ended game two and gave the Ducks the 30-22 win.

The Bruins jumped out to an early 4-2 lead in game three, but saw the Ducks score four in a row to take a 6-2 advantage. UCLA re-took the lead at 8-7, but a 3-0 run gave Oregon the lead back at 10-8. Trailing 11-10, it was time for the Bruins to make a run, netting the next five to take a 15-11 lead. McGraw had two kills during the spurt, Mills and junior Kaitlin Sather added one each and a Daley ace capped the run.

The Ducks tied the game at 17 and 18, but the Bruins never lost the lead. On top 26-24, UCLA scored the final four points to take the third game 30-24. Kills by Sather and Johnson sparked the run, with Daley sending home the game-clincher to put the Bruins up 2-1. UCLA hit .500 for the game with just three hitting errors.

Game four was the closest of the match. UCLA led by two early on, but with the score tied at 12, Oregon took its first lead of the game at 13-12. It sparked a 6-2 run by the Ducks to put them up 18-14. The Bruins countered with a 5-1 run of their own to even things at 19. Daley and Mills each had a kill and a block during the run.

The next run came from Oregon, which scored four of the next five to take a 23-20 advantage and force the Bruins into a timeout. Out of the break, UCLA came on with a 7-1 run to take a 27-24 lead. Kills by Mills, Johnson and McGraw, to go along with four attack errors caused Oregon to take a pair of timeouts. The Ducks wouldn't quit though, scoring five of the next seven and holding off three match points to get to tied it at 29. The teams traded sideouts until a Daley kill put the score at 35-34 to give the Bruins their ninth match point. The ninth time would finally be the charm, as Daley spiked home the winner to net UCLA the 36-34 win and the match.

Sonja Newcombe led all players with 24 kills, adding 14 digs, while Gorana Maricic posted 21 kills, 12 digs and seven blocks.

The Bruins complete their three-match homestand on Friday when they host Oregon State at 7 p.m. Gametracker and live audio will be available on UCLABruins.com.
