Bruins Finish Round One in San Diego in First Place

The No. 2/No. 3 (Golfweek/Golfstat) ranked UCLA women's golf team finished the first round of the Battle at Rancho Bernardo Inn in first place, leading by just one stroke over second place UC Davis.

The Bruins recorded an overall score of 293 (+5) while second place UC Davis posted a score of 294 (+6). Purdue finished in third place at 295 (+7) while Arizona State ended up in 4th at 297 (+9). USC rounded out the top five with a score 299 (+11).

Individually, junior Stephanie Kono finished in a tie for 3rd place with a first round score of 71 (-1). Sophomore Lee Lopez, fresh off of her victory at the Bruin Wave Invitational, and freshman Ani Gulugian each posted a 73 (+1) to end up tied for 9th. Kono is just two shots behind the leader while Lopez and Gulugian are four strokes behind. Junior Brianna Do competed as an individual and recorded a 76 (+4) to tie for 34th. Senior Glory Yang also shot a 76 (+4) to finish tied for 34th while sophomore Tiffany Lua shot a 77 (+5) to finish tied for 43rd place.

Giulia Molinaro of Arizona State currently leads the tournament after shooting a 69 (-3).
