TEMPE, Ariz. - The Bruins finished the Kajakawa Classic with a win on Sunday afternoon, defeating Nevada 9-1 in five innings of play. UCLA had four home runs on the day including three-run shots by Jaisa Creps and Jodie Legaspi.
Nevada started the game scoring a run on a two hits in the top of the first inning, but would record just one more hit in the remaining four innings of the game.
With one out in the bottom of the second, Julie Burney connected on her first career home run, giving the Bruins a 2-1 lead.
Four more runs came across in the third inning on a leadoff home run by Shull, her second of the season, and a three-run shot by Jaisa Creps, her first of the year.
The first rain of the day fell in the bottom of the third inning and there was a brief rain delay during the bottom of the fourth, but not before Legaspi added a three-run home run to left center to bring her day's totals to 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBI.
Megan Langenfeld earned the victory, her second of the season. She struck out three and allowed just three hits on the day.
The Bruins return to action on Tuesday afternoon with a 2:30 pm first pitch against UC Riverside at Easton Stadium.
