No. 5 UCLA Defeats No. 9 Arizona State, 7-6, at Stanford Invitational

STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 5 UCLA women's water polo team edged No. 9 Arizona State, 7-6, in the Stanford Invitational on Sunday morning. The Bruins (5-2) received one pair of goals each from junior Grace Reynolds and freshman Leah Trella.

Juniors Megan Burmeister and Katie Estrada and sophomore KK Clark each tallied one goal.

Arizona State (3-3) received two goals from Sarah Harris, Bonnie Miles and Kelsey White.

The Bruins led 2-1 after the first quarter. Arizona State outscored UCLA, 3-2, in the second period to tie the contest, 4-4, at halftime. UCLA blanked the Sun Devils by a 2-0 margin in the third frame to secure a 6-4 lead. Arizona State reduced the Bruins' lead to one goal in the final quarter before UCLA sealed a 7-6 victory.

UCLA sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Dement registered five saves in the cage. Arizona State goalkeeper Taylor Greenberg netted six saves.

The Bruins return to action against No. 2 USC (4-1) on Sunday at 3:15 p.m. at Stanford's Avery Pool.
