Senior Riza Zalameda (Los Angeles, CA/Beverly Hills HS) of the UCLA women's tennis team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week (January 14-21).
Zalameda won both the singles and doubles titles at the National Collegiate Tennis Classic, which is annually regarded as one of the most prestigious events in the country. Zalameda, listed at No. 25 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles rankings, defeated 58th ranked Carolyn McVeigh of Stanford, 6-2, 6-3 in Sunday's singles final. That win earned Zalameda a qualifying wild card into the WTA Tour's Pacific Life Open, March 10 and 11, also in Indian Wells. Following her singles win, Zalameda then teamed with fellow senior Tracy Lin to capture the doubles championship at the NCTC, as the duo defeated USC's Amanda Fink/Gabriela Niculescu, 8-6.
This is Zalameda's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.
