The UCLA gymnastics team was picked as the preseason favorite to win the Pac-12 in a poling of the Conference's eight coaches. The 2011 NCAA runner-up received 48 points and six first-place votes. The National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches (NACGC) also selected the Bruins as the No. 1 team in the nation in its Preseason Coaches Poll.
Utah, the national preseason No. 5 team, earned two first place votes and 43 points total to place second in the conference poll. Oregon State, which ranks No. 7 in the nation, is picked to finish third with 38 points, and Stanford, which ranks eighth nationally, is picked to finish fourth with 30 points. Rounding out the conference polls is fifth-place Washington (24), Arizona (19) and Arizona State and Cal (11 each).
The Bruins return a total of eight All-Americans from last year's squad that finished second at the NCAA Championships - 2011 NCAA beam champion Samantha Peszek, 2010 NCAA vault champion Vanessa Zamarripa, 10-time All-American Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs, Aisha Gerber, Tauny Frattone, Monique De La Torre, Olivia Courtney and Sydney Sawa.
The Pac-12 season begins the weekend of Jan. 6. UCLA's season opener is at the John Wooden Center on Sunday, Jan. 8 against Utah in a battle between the conference's top two teams. To purchase tickets to the UCLA-Utah meet, CLICK HERE.
