Malibu, Calif. - The UCLA men's tennis team saw its hopes for a singles title dashed at the 2011 USTA/ITA Southwest Regionals on Friday, as all four Bruin players suffered losses in day two action at Pepperdine.

UCLA's Clay Thompson and Maxime Tabatruong each won a round on Friday before falling in the round of 16. Thompson downed Cal Poly's Jurgen De Jager 6-2, 6-1 before falling to San Diego's Patrick Pohlmann, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4. Tabatruong was a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 winner over UCSB's Greg Scott in the third round. He would fall to San Diego's Nikola Bubnic, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 in the next round.

Dennis Mkrtchian and Warren Hardie both fell in the third round on Friday, with Mkrtchian losing 6-3, 6-4 to Fresno State's Francis Alcantara, and Hardie falling 7-6, 6-1 to USC's Emilio Gomez.

Despite the setback in singles, the Bruins still have two doubles teams in contention in Malibu. Hardie and Thompson moved into the round of 16 with an 8-3 win over UC Riverside's Luis Gastao and Jimmy Roberts, and Alex Brigham and Mkrtchian downed Cal Poly's Naveen Beasley and Jordan Keplar, 8-3.
