Tatum Souza is in first-place and on track for a career-best score in the heptathlon after day one of the California Invite in Azusa. During day one, she posted three lifetime-bests and one season-best mark.
Souza opened up the meet with the fastest time in the 100m hurdles, 14.26, a mark which is also a lifetime-best for the sophomore (942 pts.). She then tied for eighth in the high jump with a lifetime-best clearance of 5-4.25 (771 pts.). In the shot put, Souza threw a season-best 38-9.75 for fourth overall (650 pts.). Souza ended the day with a lifetime-best run in the 200m (25-51, 841 pts.) for the third-fastest time of the day. Her four-event score after day one was 3204 points.
Competition continues on Thursday with the final three events of the heptathlon - long jump, javelin and the 800m.
