SOFTBALL CONCLUDES REGULAR SEASON
The Bruins complete their Pac-10 and regular season schedules this weekend with a trip to the desert. UCLA faces 2007 Pac-10 Champion Arizona on Thursday night. The Wildcats clinched the league title last Sunday when an Arizona defeat of Oregon State paired with an ASU loss to Oregon gave the Wildcats a 3.5 game lead in the standings with three games left to play.
UCLA split its weekend series with the Wildcats at Easton Stadium earlier this season and lost the lone game with the Sun Devils on March 30.
UCLA RANKED 13TH IN LATEST RPI STANDINGS
The latest NCAA Softball RPI rankings were released on Wednesday morning and show the Bruins ranked 13th, the third-highest Pac-10 team on the list.
All three of UCLA's games this weekend are against teams significantly higher than the Bruins in the NCAA RPI including a Thursday night contest at No. 1 Arizona and games on Friday and Saturday at No. 5 Arizona State.
The RPI is one of many tools used by the NCAA Division I Softblal Selection Committee to assemble the field for the 2007 NCAA Championship. This year's field will be announced on Sunday between noon and 1 pm PT on ESPNews.
BRUINS AWAIT POSTSEASON FATE
UCLA's postseason path will be mapped out this Sunday, May 13, when the NCAA Division I Softball Selection Show airs on ESPNews some time between noon and 1 pm Pacific Time. The Bruins have hosted NCAA Regionals and Super Regionals the past two seasons and have put in a bid to host both weekends again in 2007. Sixteen teams are seeded, resulting in 16 four-team double-elimination sites to handle the first weekend of play for the 64-team field.
