LOS ANGELES -

BRUINS HEAD NORTH THIS WEEK
The second-ranked UCLA men's water polo team (8-0) travels to Stanford, Calif., for the NorCal Tournament on Sept. 15-16, 2012. UCLA opens with Concordia at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday (Sept. 15) and should they win, will play the winner of Pacific/Loyola Marymount at 3:25 p.m. later that day at Avery Aquatic Center in the Belardi Pool.

2011 NorCal TOURNAMENT RECAP
The No. 3 UCLA men's water polo team downed No. 20 Air Force, 21-4, in a first-round match of the NorCal Tournament at Delta College on Sept. 17, 2011. Then the Bruins posted a 13-10 victory over No. 6 UC Santa Barbara as Josh Samuels paced UCLA with three goals in a second-round match at Delta College. In a semifinal match, the Bruins edged No. 2 California 6-5 at Pacific's Chris Kjeldsen Aquatics Complex. In the final, No. 1 USC handed the Bruins' their first defeat of the year, 10-8, on Sept. 18, 2011.

RECAPPING LAST WEEK
Last week the Bruins traveled to Princeton, N.J. to compete in the Princeton Invational. UCLA went 5-0 in the Princeton Invite, opening with three straight lop-sided victories (22-0 vs. Fordham, 22-4 vs. George Washington and 21-4 vs. Johns Hopkins) on Sept. 8. The Bruins concluded the tournament with back-to-back wins over ranked opponents. UCLA defeated No. 18 Brown, 14-8, on Sept. 9 and then posted a 20-3 victory at No. 13 Princeton to end its East coast trip.

INJURED BRUINS BACK IN THE MIX
Senior goalkeeper Matt Rapacz started all five games of the Princeton Invitational, picking up 21 saves while allowing 4.0 goals per game. He played only the first half of all five contests. Junior center Lucas Reynolds also made his presence felt, scoring eight goals in his first five starts of the year. Senior attacker Griffin White burst onto the scene, leading UCLA in scoring in three of the five games last week, totaling 17 goals to lead the Bruins in the Princeton Invitational, which also vaulted him to the team's scoring lead on the young season.

McCLINTICK IS MR. CONSISTENT
True freshman utility Danny McClintick is the only Bruin to score a goal in all eight games of the season. He has also scored multiple goals in four of the eight games, to rank second on the team in goals scored with 15. The leader in goals scored, senior Griffin White (17 goals), has also scored a goal in every game he has played (five). White missed the first three games of the season due to injury, but scored three or more goals in five games of the Princeton Invitational last week. Another true freshman, Joey Fuentes, has scored at least one goal in seven of his first eight college games.

WRIGHT ON DECK FOR YEAR FOUR
The Bruins are led by fourth-year head coach Adam Wright, who has compiled a 71-18 (.798) record, including a 17-7 mark in MPSF action. Wright played at UCLA from 1997-2000, helping lead the Bruins to NCAA Championships in 1999 and 2000. He played for the USA National Team in the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympics, leading Team USA to a silver medal in 2008 in Beijing. Wright has played for the National Team in every major international tournament since 2001. He has guided the Bruins to two MPSF Tournament titles and runner-up finishes at the NCAA Tournament in his three seasons at the helm. In 2009 and 2011, UCLA won the MPSF Tournament title and advanced to the title match of the NCAA Tournament. Wright was named MPSF Coach of the Year in 2011 after leading UCLA to the MPSF Tournament title and a runner-up finish at the NCAA Tournament.
