Junior guard Lazeric Jones (Chicago, IL/John A. Logan College) of the UCLA men's basketball team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Jan. 17-23.
Jones led UCLA to a pair of victories last week, helping the Bruins win four straight Pac-10 games for the first time since the end of the 2008-09 season. UCLA opened the week with an 86-84 win over California (Jan. 20) and a 68-57 win over Stanford (Jan. 22). Against the Golden Bears, Jones scored a season-high 24 points and was a season-high 10-for-12 from the free-throw line. He also had three assists, one steal and one rebound while shooting 60.0 percent (6-for-10) from the field. In the win over the Cardinal, Jones scored 17 points and had a season-best six rebounds to go with one assist and one steal. He again made a season-high 10 free throws on 11 attempts. For the week, he shot 45.0 percent (9-for-20) from the field and 87.0 percent (20-for-23) from the charity stripe while averaging a team-high 20.5 points to go with 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game.
This is Jones' first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of his career.
