Oct. 18, 2007

Box Score

SEATTLE, Wash. - Juniors Ali Daley and Kaitlin Sather each posted 12 kills, while Daley recorded her sixth straight double-double with 13 digs, but the seventh-ranked Bruins were swept in Seattle by #5 Washington on Thursday. Game scores were 30-20, 30-27, 30-26.

The Bruins fall to 15-4 overall on the season and 5-3 in Pac-10 play, while the Huskies improve to 18-1 and 7-1 in league action.

Senior Rachell Johnson added 10 kills on .400 hitting, while junior Nellie Spicer had 43 assists. Junior Jade Machado posted another double-figure dig match with 16. The Bruins hit just .146 and had only 4.5 team blocks.

The Bruins trailed throughout the first game, hitting just .180 while seeing the Huskies hit .425. UCLA was within 5-4 when Washington went on a 4-0 run on a Bruin service error and three attack errors. The Bruins trimmed the deficit to three on a few occasions, but could get no closer. The Huskies went on to win the first by a 30-20 score. Daley had five kills during the first game without an error.

In game two, the Huskies jumped out to an early 4-1 lead for the second straight game, but the Bruins went on a 6-3 run to even things at seven. Daley and freshman Katie Mills each had two kills during the run. After four straight sideouts, the Bruins took their first lead of the night at 10-9 on a UW attack error. After another error by the Huskies made it 11-9, Washington called a timeout.

The Huskies came out of the timeout on fire, scoring seven of the next nine to turn a two-point deficit into a 16-13 advantage. The Bruins still trailed 17-14 when they posted a 5-1 run of their own to re-take the lead at 19-18. UCLA got the lead up to as high as 21-19, but four in a row by Washington gave them a 23-21 edge. The Bruins never led the rest of the game. Tied at 24, the Huskies scored five of the next six to go up 29-25. UCLA saved two game points, but the third was the charm for Washington, which claimed a 30-27 victory.

It was another wire-to-wire victory for the Huskies in game three. Washington stormed out to a 7-2 lead and never looked back. The Bruins trimmed the deficit to one on a couple of occasions, but could not get over the early deficit, falling 30-26 in the final game.

The Huskies hit .315 for the match and were led by Christal Morrison and Stevie Mussie's 13 kills.

The Bruins wrap up play in the Evergreen State on Friday when they travel to Pullman and take on Washington State. Match time is at 7 p.m.
