The top-ranked UCLA women's golf team remained in third place Friday following the second round of the NCAA West Regional at Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, CO.
The Bruins posted a second-round score of 296 (+8) and were tied with North Carolina at 586 (+10). Stanford retained the top spot at 580 (+4), followed closely by LSU at 581 (+5). Baylor was fifth at 593 (+17). The top eight teams after tomorrow's round will qualify for the NCAA Championship, May 22-29 in Franklin, TN.
The Bruins played the ninth hole (their 18th) on Friday in five-over par, and two players made double bogeys on the par 3, 165-yard hole. The hole played as the fourth toughest on the day -- nearly half a stroke over par -- and just seven birdies were made there on Friday.
Sophomore Ani Gulugian birdied her 15th and 16th holes (the 6th and 7th) and was one-under par coming to her final hole. A double-bogey there gave her a one-over 73, and she was tied for eighth at 145 (+1).
Senior Brianna Do posted an identical score in much the same fashion. She birdied her 14th and 16th holes (the 5th and 7th) to move to one-under par, only to make double-bogey at the last for a 73 (+1). She was tied for 30th at 149 (+5).
Freshman Erynne Lee posted a 75 (+3) and was tied for 22nd at 148 (+4). She played her outward nine in three-over par, making four bogeys and a birdie, but steadied on her inward nine for an even par 36.
Junior Tiffany Lua was tied with Do in 30th place after carding a 75 (+3). She played her front nine in even par (two bogeys, two birdies), but was three-over on the back side.
Junior Lee Lopez was tied for 40th at 150 (+6) after posting a 79 (+7)
North Carolina's Catherine O'Donnell assumed first place after firing a 69 (-3). She held a one-stroke lead at 139 (-5) over LSU's Austin Ernst.
