LOS ANGELES - The No. 14 UCLA men's tennis team picked up its third-straight win on Friday, notching a 6-0 victory over Arizona in a Pac-10 Conference showdown at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
With the possibility of rain in the Los Angeles Area, both coaches agreed to start the match with singles and follow with doubles play if necessary. UCLA (14-5; 3-2 Pac-10) made that doubles point irrelevant, cruising to six wins in singles, five of which came in straight sets.
In the only match featuring ranked players, Bruin freshman Daniel Kosakowski, who is ranked No. 33 nationally, bested Arizona's 111th-ranked Andres Carrasco, 7-5, 6-2. The reigning Pac-10 Player of the Week, freshman Adrien Puget, was also victorious, downing Geoff Embry, 6-3, 6-1 at court No. 5.
Amit Inbar, Maxime Tabatruong and Holden Seguso were all straight-set winners. Freshman Clay Thompson actually dropped the first set against Giacomo Miccini at court No. 2 before dominating the next two sets, winning 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.
UCLA's next contest will be at Pepperdine on Monday, April 11. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
