The UCLA swimmers had a record-setting day in the pool at the USA Short Course National Championships in Federal Way, WA, while Karina Silva led the divers on day two of the Texas Invitational.
After getting off to a strong start at the Short Course meet, the swimmers continued their hot streak as three records were set and eight NCAA marks were achieved.
The 200 medley relay team of senior Isabell Fischer, junior Brittany Beauchan and freshmen Lindsey Marchand and Emly Andelson started the Bruins off with a strong NCAA qualifying and season-best swim of 1:41.13 for fourth-place overall.
Junior Lauren Hall then broke her own school record in the 400 IM with a big lifetime-best and NCAA qualifying swim of 4:11.12, placing 10th overall. Teammate Dani Milligan also improved her season-best in the IM with an NCAA time of 4:17.37 for 14th overall.
The 100 fly was a huge event for the Bruins as sophomore Bianca Casciari had an incredible lifetime-best swim of 53.40 to finish fifth in the A Final. She was the only Bruin thus far in the meet to make an A Final. Her time moves her to No. 5 all-time at UCLA and was an NCAA mark. Marchand tied for ninth in the B final with a season-best time of 53.87. Her mark moves her into the all-time list at the No. 7 spot. Sophomore Yasi Jahanshahi (16th, 54.91), senior Kirsten Byers (19th, 55.23) and frosh Emily Andelson (45th, 56.71) also posted season-best times in the event. Andelson also recorded a season-best of 1:51.89 in the 200 free.
Another school record fell in the 100 breast as Beauchan swam a lifetime-best and NCAA mark of 1:00.45 to finish ninth overall and win the B Final. Marchand, also in the B final, broke the freshman record in the event with her 15th-place swim of 1:01.78 (season-best).
Fischer notched a season-best in the 100 back (54.42) as she tied for ninth in the B final.
In Austin at the Texas Invitational, junior Karina Silva finished third on one-meter to lead the divers, scoring a season-high 255.75. Silva also finished third on three-meter on Thursday.
Competition wraps up for both the swimmers and divers on Saturday.
