Four Bruins finished in fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh-place on the final day of the inaugural decathlon competition at the fifth annual Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational as freshman Casey DiCesare led the way with a fourth-place finish.
DiCesare moved up from sixth to fourth-place on the second day of the decathlon as he scored a UCLA-best 6,345 points. He started the day with a season-best run in the hurdles in a time of 17.85 (539 points), then followed up with two more season-bests in the discus (121-1/602 points) and pole vault (15-9/849 points). He picked up 509 points in the javelin (146-3) and ended the day with 571 points in the 1500m (571 points) for a second day point total of 3,070 points.
Reuter, who was battling shin problems throughout the meet, finished fifth with a lifetime-best score of 6,291 points. He opened up day two with a lifetime-best run in the hurdles (15.66) for 772 points. He picked up 541 points in the discus (111-1), and then picked up another lifetime-best in the pole vault with a mark of 14-1.25 (702 points). He added 451 points in the javelin (133-3) and 494 points in the 1500m (5:11.78) for a second day point total of 2,960 points.
Scott DiCesare moved from seventh to sixth on day two as he scored a UCLA-best 6,018 points. He ran 16.94 in the hurdles (631 points), threw 92-3 in the discus (428 points) and cleared a season-best 14-5.25 in the pole vault (731 points). In the javelin he threw 145-3 for 504 points and ended the meet with 541 points in the 1500m, running 5:03.35 for a second day score of 2,835 points.
Drbal made huge improvements in just his second decathlon ever as he finished seventh with a lifetime-best score of 5,881 points. He ran a season-best 15.99 in the high hurdles (734 points), threw a season-best 98-8 in the discus (466 points), cleared a season-high 12-1.50 in the pole vault (535 points), posted a javelin mark of 140-4 (482 points) and ran a season-best 4:58.83 in the 1500m (566 points) for a second day score of 2,783 points.
Competition continues on Friday with open/collegiate events and a distance carnival in the evening. Complete meet results will be posted later in the evening.
