The Senior Bowl all-star football game announced its watch list today, and UCLA tied for the most selections from among the Pac-12 Conference member schools. Three defensive players -- cornerback Aaron Hester, defensive lineman Datone Jones and cornerback Sheldon Price -- and two offensive players -- running back Johnathan Franklin and Y receiver Joseph Fauria -- were the honored players. The total of five Bruins tied Oregon for the most players from the conference's schools chosen for the list.
Hester ranked fourth on the team in tackles in 2011 and has 23 starts over the course of the last two seasons. Jones started all 14 games last season and topped the team with 6.5 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks. He led the Bruin linemen with 41 tackles. Price owns 32 career starts and ranked tied for 17th in the Pac-12 in passes defensed last season (0.67).
Franklin ranks ninth on the all-time UCLA rushing list and has churned out 2,103 yards on the ground over the last two seasons. He has been named to the Doak Walker and Maxwell Award preseason watch lists. Fauria led the Bruins last season with six touchdown receptions, the most by a UCLA receiver since Marcedes Lewis had 10 in 2005. He was second on the team with 39 catches and 481 receiving yards. He has been named to the Lombardi and Mackey Award preseason watch lists.
The top 100 seniors in the country will be invited to participate in the 2013 Senior Bowl, set for Saturday, January 26th in Mobile's Ladd-Peebles Stadium. Invitations for the game will begin being extended in the next few weeks and continue throughout the 2012 season.
