Cheney, Adams and DiMartino Named NSCAA/adidas All-Americans

Dec. 18, 2007

LOS ANGELES - UCLA women's soccer players Lauren Cheney, Christina DiMartino and Danesha Adams were all named to the 2007 NSCAA/adidas All-America Team this week. UCLA, North Carolina and West Virginia led all schools with three total selections.

Cheney, a sophomore forward from Indianapolis, Ind., ended the season ranked second nationally in points per game (2.48) and third nationally in goals per game (1.0). She was recently named one of three finalists for the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy and one of four finalists for the Honda Award. Both awards are given to the player of the year in college soccer. Cheney was a first-team All-America selection in 2006 as well.

Adams, a senior midfielder from Shaker Heights, Ohio, ranked second on the team in scoring this season with 38 points (15g, 8a). She also ranked second on the team in game-winning goals with five. Adams scored one of the biggest goals for UCLA this season, as her header in double-overtime gave the Bruins a 3-2 victory over second-seeded Portland in the NCAA Quarterfinals. She becomes the first player in UCLA history to earn three NSCAA All-America honors, after being named to the second-team in 2005 and a third-team in 2006.

DiMartino, a junior midfielder from Massapequa, N.Y., led the Pac-10 in assists this season with 12. She ranked third on the team in scoring with 24 points (6g, 12a). A first-team All-Pac-10 selection, she was named a semifinalist for the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy, given annually to the player of the year in college soccer. It marks the second NSCAA All-America honor of her career, as she was named a first-team selection in 2006.
