UCLA stopped its two-match losing skid with a four-game victory over visiting Hawai'i Wednesday night in Pauley Pavilion.
The Bruins won 30-25, 33-31, 28-30, 31-29 in front of 776 spectators in two hours and six minutes. The victory improved UCLA's record to 4-6 overall, 2-5 in MPSF play. Hawai'i fell to 2-5, 2-3.
The Warriors committed 27 service errors without an ace and that statistic alone told the story of their defeat. UH out-blocked the Bruins 18.5-11.5 and hit for a higher percentage, .279-.222. The visitors even recorded more digs, 45-38.
The Bruins served six aces and committed 23 service errors.
Sophomore Jim Clar hammered 22 kills (.447) to lead the visitors, followed by 16 from senior Lauri Hakala.
The two teams meet Fri., Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion to complete the league series.
