Sophomore All-American Alec Faldermeyer unleashed a monster throw of 229-3 in the hammer on Saturday at the Mt. SAC Relays, narrowly missing the school record by two inches.
Faldermeyer came into the meet with a lifetime-best of 223-9 and a season-best of 221-1 and upped both marks on Saturday with a new career-best of 229-3. He finished sixth overall, but was the top collegiate finisher during the elite competition. His mark moves him to No. 3 in the NCAA this season and raises the sophomore class record (which he broke earlier this season). He also moves from No. 3 in UCLA history, to No. 2 behind only former All-American Bolizsar Kocsor.
Also on Saturday, sophomore Mike Woepse was competing in the pole vault. He unfortunately did not clear his opening height of 17-4.50.
The Bruins will host USC on Sunday, Apr. 29 in the final home meet of the season.
