Former UCLA baseball player Eric Byrnes was recently featured in the Sept. 17 edition of Sports Illustrated. Byrnes, who played at UCLA from 1995-1998, currently plays for the Arizona Diamondbacks, who maintain a one-game lead in the National League West with three regular-season games remaining.
Byrnes, who helped lead the Bruins to the 1997 College World Series, owns UCLA's career records in runs scored, at-bats and hits. Byrnes ranks second in career doubles, sixth in career home runs and fourth in career stolen bases.
As a major league ballplayer, Byrnes currently leads the Arizona Diamondbacks in hits (178), at-bats (619), doubles (tied with 29), RBI (83) and stolen bases (49) while posting a .288 batting average and .355 on-base percentage.
