The 2nd ranked UCLA men's golf team will co-host the second annual Battle at the Beach in Newport Beach, CA. The tournament will take place from Sunday, Feb. 13th to Tuesday, Feb. 15th and will be played on the Ocean North Course at Pelican Hill Golf Resort.
First round action will begin at approximately 7:00 a.m. PT on Sunday and fans at home can follow live scoring at Golfstat.com.
Thirteen teams will battle for team and individual honors, including four from the Pac-10 (UCLA, Arizona State, Oregon State and Washington) and four ranked in the top 20 (UCLA (2), Augusta State (12), Arkansas (15) and San Diego State (16)).
Last week, the Bruins took home third place at the Amer Ani Invitational in Kohala Coast, Hawaii with a score of 836 (-28). The Oklahoma State Cowboys were the winners of the tournament, finishing six strokes ahead of the Bruins. Freshman Patrick Cantlay followed a second round 64 with a final round 65 to finish in a tie for first with two other players. However, Cantlay would fall on the 7th playoff hole to Oregon's Daniel Miernicki and ended up tied for second. For the season, Cantlay has shot an astounding twelve-under par has three top 10 finishes in four tournaments.
Cantlay, Main, Widegren, Clemens, junior Alex Shi Yup Kim and senior Connor Driscoll will all be competing for the Bruins this coming weekend. Arboleda and sophomore Bobby Lange will compete as individuals.
Last year, UCLA took the team title with an overall score of 1,055 (-10) in the six count five scoring format. Widegren was the Bruins' top finisher at the tournament, posting a 206 (-7) and tying for third place.
