UCLA Heads to Wisconsin
The third-ranked UCLA women's soccer team (1-0) hits the road this week, traveling to the Wisconsin Tournament, Aug. 27 & 29 in Madison, Wisc. The Bruins open up the tournament on Friday, facing host No. 20 Wisconsin (0-0-1) at 7:00 p.m. (CST). UCLA then rounds out the tournament on Sunday, taking on Northwestern (1-0) at 11:00 a.m. (CST).

Bruin Offense Explodes in 2010 Season Opener
The Bruins put on an offensive display in their 2010 season opener on Sunday, scoring six first-half goals in an eventual 7-0 victory over Cal Poly at UCLA's North Athletic Field. No player was more impressive than junior Sydney Leroux, who accounted for four of the team's goals, notching a hat trick in just the first half. Other Bruin scorers were Dana Wall, Zakiya Bywaters and Lauren Barnes. The Bruins out-shot Cal Poly, 29-2 on the afternoon. Boxscore / Video Highlights.
Leroux Recognized for Outstanding Play
Junior forward Sydney Leroux, who found the back of the net four times against Cal Poly on Sunday, was named both the NSCAA National Player of the Week and the Pac-10 Player of the Week on Tuesday. Leroux is the first player in school history to score four goals in a game more than once (she also did it in a 7-1 win over Boise State last season). She was also recognized this week by Top Drawer Soccer, CollegeSoccer360.com and LA Soccer News.
Newcomers Get Playing Time
Jenna Richmond, Charney Burk and Ariana Martinez all cracked the starting lineup in the team's 7-0 season-opening win over Cal Poly on Sunday. It marked the first collegiate match for both Richmond and Martinez, while Burk played two seasons at Portland prior to transferring to UCLA. Two other Bruins who saw their first playing time for UCLA were freshman Chelsea Braun and sophomore Courtney Lovelace, who did not play as a freshman in 2009.
Three Bruins Named to MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List
The Missouri Athletic Club recently released a list of 45 women's soccer players who it thinks are likely candidates for the Hermann Trophy player of the year award. Among those named to the Watch List were Bruin players Kylie Wright, Lauren Barnes and Sydney Leroux. It marks the first time that Wright has been designated as a candidate for the award, however both Barnes and Leroux were among those named to the Watch List in 2009. UCLA's Lauren Cheney was one of the top 3 finalists for last year's award, which ultimately went to Stanford's Kelley O'Hara. Click HERE for the complete list.
UCLA Picked to Finish Second in Pac-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll
For the third year in a row, UCLA was picked to finish second in the annual Pac-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll released by the conference on Aug. 11. With nine first-place votes, defending Pac-10 Champion Stanford was chosen as the favorite for this year's title. UCLA was the only other team to receive a first-place vote. The Bruins and Cardinal are set to clash on Oct. 10 at UCLA's Drake Stadium.

UCLA Women's Cup to Feature UCLA-Notre Dame Showdown
Fourth-ranked Notre Dame will make its first-ever trip to UCLA on Sept. 10, as the Fighting Irish are scheduled to face No. 3 UCLA in the second game of the 2010 UCLA Women's Cup beginning at 7:00 p.m. The first match that night features UCSB taking on Loyola Marymount at 4:00 p.m. The UCLA Women's Cup will mark the first meeting between the Bruins and Fighting Irish since the 2004 NCAA Final, a match won by Notre Dame on penalty kicks.
Bruins Check in at No. 3 in NSCAA/adidas Top 25
The UCLA women's soccer team remained at No. 3 this week in the NSCAA/adidas rankings released on Tuesday. The Bruins are ranked just behind defending NCAA Champion North Carolina and runner-up Stanford. All three teams, including No. 4 Notre Dame, participated in last year's NCAA College Cup in College Station, Texas. Portland rounds out the top 5. The full rankings can be accessed HERE.

Head Coach Jillian Ellis
Jillian Ellis is in her 12th season as head coach at UCLA. The 2000 NSCAA/adidas National Coach of the Year, Ellis owns a record of 216-37-12 at UCLA. Her overall coaching record, which includes two seasons at the University of Illinois, stands at 235-55-12. She has led the Bruins to seven Pac-10 titles (2001, 2003-08) and eight appearances in the NCAA College Cup (2000, 2003-09).
