UCLA Rowing Opens Spring Season With Wins Over LMU

MARINA DEL REY, Calif. - The UCLA women's rowing team opened its 2011 campaign with victories over Loyola Marymount on Saturday morning. The Bruins earned first-place finishes in each of the four women's races.

UCLA's two varsity eights finished in 6:31.38 and 6:33.50, respectively, crossing the finish line ahead of LMU (7:03.95). The Bruins raced their first and second varsity eights in that race.

The open four crew posted a time of 7:54.52, besting LMU's time of 8:43.19.

The two schools raced a novice race as well, with the Bruins' novice eight crew prevailing over the LMU crew. UCLA posted a time of 7:00.00, while LMU finished the race in 7:44.20

In addition, UCLA's varsity four crews raced against the Long Beach Rowing Association. The Bruins 'A' team posted a time of of 7:24.70 to win the race, with the 'B' team finishing second at 7:38.37.

The Bruins continue their spring season with a dual meet against San Diego State in Marina del Rey, Calif. on Sunday, March 13. Race times and lineups will be released during the week.
