LOS ANGELES - Senior Cole Consani and freshman Griffin White each registered three goals to lead the No. 4 UCLA men's water polo team past Chapman, 15-7, in a non-conference match Sunday afternoon at UCLA's Spieker Aquatics Center.
UCLA defeated Pacific, 11-7, in an MPSF contest earlier in the day.
Against Chapman, UCLA (16-5) raced to a 5-1 lead through the first quarter and led the rest of the way. The Bruins opened an 11-1 advantage midway into the third quarter.
The visiting Panthers closed the gap to 12-4 by the end of the third period and trailed by as few as seven goals twice in the final quarter.
UCLA also received one pair of goals from senior Scott Swanson, junior Kevin Kuga and sophomore Cullen Hennessy. Chapman's Alex Mule scored a game-high four goals, and teammate Steve Neville added two goals.
UCLA freshman goalkeeper Matt Rapacz registered five saves, allowing four goals in the first and third quarters. Sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Mesesan surrendered three goals in the second and fourth quarters, totaling four saves in the cage.
Chapman's Colin Gasper made one save and allowed nine goals in the first two quarters. Taylor Roszkos registered two saves in the final two quarters, surrendering six goals.
UCLA returns to action at No. 5 Pepperdine on Saturday, Oct. 31. Game time is 12 p.m.
