Bruins Earn All-America Honors

Dec. 3, 2012

Three members of the Pac-12 South Division champion Bruins were selected on Monday to the College Football All-America team. Senior running back Johnathan Franklin, ninth in the nation in rushing, was named to the first team. Junior linebacker Anthony Barr, who leads the nation in sacks, was chosen to the second team. Sophomore offensive guard Xavier Su'a-Filo was a third-team pick. Senior punter Jeff Locke was a first-team All-Conference selection.

Franklin, a finalist for the Doak Walker Award, became UCLA's all-time leader in all-purpose yardage during the Pac-12 Championship game. He also set a new mark for single-season rushing during the contest at Stanford and now has 1,700 yards on the year. Earlier this season, he became the all-time rushing leader at the school and currently has 4,369 yards.

Barr, who is playing his first season on the defensive side of the ball after two as a running back, recorded 1.5 sacks in the Championship game and moved into the national lead with 13.5 sacks. That total is second on the all-time school list for a season behind Dave Ball's total of 16.5, set in 2003.

Su'a-Filo, who returned to the team following a two-year Church mission, has been opening holes for Franklin and protecting quarterback Brett Hundley well all season.

Locke leads the Pac-12 with 31 punts placed inside the twenty-yard line this season, including 20 at or inside the 10-yard line.

The Bruins will be in action on Dec. 27 against Baylor in the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl in San Diego, CA. For further information on UCLA and the Holiday Bowl, please visit our Bowl Central page at
