On a picturesque, sunny Southern California day, the Bruin swimming and diving team downed Kansas and Fresno State in their first home meet in the Spieker Aquatics Center. UCLA posted eight event wins during the meet and now improve to 5-1 on the season.
UCLA had a close battle with Kansas throughout the meet, but pulled away in the final three events to win 168-132. The Bruins also defeated Fresno State 245-55. Today's meet was the first meeting between the Bruins and both Kansas and Fresno State. Each event winner set dual meet and pool records.
Leading the way with victories for the Bruins were junior Sam Vanden Berge in the 1000 free (10:11.03), junior Brittany Beauchan in both the 100 (1:02.53) and 200 (2:13.95) breaststrokes, sophomore Yasi Jahanshahi in the 100 (55.24) and 200 (2:00.81) flys, junior Karina Silva on three-meter (275.75), junior Lauren Hall in the 400 IM (4:16.97) and the 200 medley relay team of frosh Laurence Delisle, Beauchan, frosh Lindsey Marchand and sophomore Madison Fitzgerald.
The Bruin divers will next hosts several teams in the Bruin Diving Invitational, January 16-17. Both the swimmers and divers will then face Stanford (1/29) and California (1/30) at the Spieker Aquatics Center.
