Bruins Well-Represented on Sports Illustrated March Madness Lists

March 6, 2013

Seven UCLA players have been chosen by Sports Illustrated to represent the Top 75 players in NCAA Tournament history. This season marks the 75th year of NCAA March Madness. Additionally, UCLA is represented twice in the magazine's Top 10 NCAA Tournament moments.

UCLA centers Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar/1967-69) and Bill Walton (1972-74) are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 all-time, followed by five more Bruins - No. 16 Gail Goodrich (guard, 1963-65), No. 23 Sidney Wicks (forward, 1969-71), No. 28 Walt Hazzard (guard, 1962-64), No. 35 Jamaal (Keith) Wilkes (forward, 1972-74) and No. 55 Marques Johnson (forward, 1974-77). The seven Bruins combined to win 14 NCAA titles, with Alcindor and Wicks winning each year they played.

In the Top 10 Moments, Coach John Wooden's first UCLA NCAA Championship-winning team of 1964 is featured, along with Tyus Edney's 4.8 second full-court dash and game-winning basket against Missouri in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. That team also captured the national title.
