Los Angeles, Calif. - Seniors Ryan Hollingshead and Evan Raynr each scored goals, but it wasn't enough as the sixth-seeded UCLA men's soccer team saw its season come to an end with a 5-2 loss to San Diego in the NCAA Second Round.

The Bruins finish the season with a 13-3-3 overall record while the Toreros improved to 13-8-0 on the year. San Diego advances to the third round with the win and will face Tulsa in the next round.

UCLA got on the board early when Hollingshead scored his seventh goal of the season off a nice give-and-go with Raynr to put the Bruins up 1-0 in the 10th minute. Hollingshead took a pass from Raynr on the left side of the box and fired one that deflected off San Diego keeper Drew Ilijevski's hands for the goal.

The Toreros came back though and found the equalizer in the 31st minute when Connor Brandt scooped up a loose ball in the box and fired a low line-drive into the left-hand corner of the net for a goal. In the 40th minute, Hollingshead saw another great chance when he fired a shot that was saved by Ilijevski. He picked up his own rebound and shot again, but Iljevski made another save. The ball again came back out to Victor Munoz, who put a shot on goal but had the ball cleared off the line by the San Diego defense and away from danger. Neither side scored for the rest of the half and the two teams went into the locker room tied at 1-1.

The match wouldn't stay tied long as Sergio Lopez scored off a tap-in in front of the goal, putting the Toreros up 2-1 in the 52nd minute. The Bruins answered just two minutes later though as Raynr scored his third of the year with a shot from about 20 yards out to the far post, evening the match at 2-2.

The Toreros again would not let up and went ahead 3-2 in the 66th minute when Patrick Wallen took a through ball from Dan Delgado and curled one far post past Bruin keeper Earl Edwards for a goal. Less than a minute later, Wallen scored again when he flicked a ball in front of net to the far post past Edwards to put San Diego up 4-2. Desperate to cut into the lead, UCLA continued to push forward but could not generate any serious chances. The Toreros then scored their final goal of the match in the 78th minute, when James Cohn scored with a header off a corner kick to put San Diego up by what ended up being the final score of 5-2.

"We had an off-night on the wrong night and our season is unfortunately over after a poor performance in our first playoff match," head coach Jorge Salcedo said. "It's disappointing, but there are a lot of positives from the season. We only lost three matches throughout the whole season and we'll look back at some point and be proud of the things we accomplished. But tonight, we're disappointed with the result."

As mentioned above, UCLA finished the season with a 13-3-3 overall record and won their fourth Pac-12 title in five years (eighth overall) in 2012. The Bruins also reached the NCAA Tournament for the 30th consecutive year, which is the second longest active streak in the nation.
