LOS ANGELES - Senior Scott Davidson and freshman Josh Samuels each scored three goals to lead the No. 4 UCLA men's water polo team past No. 6 Loyola Marymount, 10-5, on Thursday afternoon in a non-conference match at LMU's Burns Recreation and Aquatics Center.
UCLA (13-5) led from the start against the host Lions (13-5), scoring two goals in each of the first two quarters. Davidson converted for the Bruins on a power-play with 4:37 to play in the opening quarter, before freshman Griffin White added UCLA's second goal of the afternoon at the 1:52 mark.
In the second quarter, junior Emilio Vieira scored on a 6-on-5 opportunity with 3:58 to play in the half. Samuels scored the first of his three goals on a five-meter penalty shot with 2:21 remaining in the quarter, handing UCLA a 4-0 cushion.
Loyola Marymount outscored UCLA by a 3-2 margin in the third quarter, trimming the Bruins' advantage to 6-3. In the final period, the Bruins added four goals to Loyola Marymount's two, handing UCLA a 10-4 victory.
Senior goalkeeper Chay Lapin made seven stops for the Bruins. Loyola Marymount's Andy Stevens finished with eight saves in the cage.
The Lions received one goal from each of five players.
Davidson tied his season high with three goals and extended his scoring streak to a season-long 11 matches.
UCLA returns to action at No. 7 UC Irvine (12-5, 1-0 MPSF) in a conference match at UCI's Anteater Pool on Saturday, Oct. 24. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
