The Bruins fall to 31-15 overall and 7-10 in Pac-10 play, while the Wildcats improved to 39-13 and 10-7 in league action.
UCLA had six hits, with junior Samantha Camuso and freshman Kellie Fox also producing hits. Freshman Jessica Hall (15-8) started and allowed five runs, four hits and three walks in 2 1/3 innings with one strikeout. Senior Donna Kerr tossed 4 2/3 innings of relief, giving up two unearned runs and three hits with four strikeouts. She retired 12 in a row at one point and 14 of the final 15 batters she faced.
The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead with a two-out rally in the second, as Karissa Buchanan, Lini Koria and Ashlee Brawley recorded three straight singles to give Arizona a 1-0 edge.
Arizona broke it open with six runs in the third. With one out, the Wildcats loaded the bases on back-to-back walks to Brittany Lastrapes and Lauren Schutzler and a single up the middle by Brigette Del Ponte. Stacie Chambers followed with a walk to force in Lastrapes to make it 2-0. Kristen Arriola then doubled down the left-field line to plate Schutzler and Del Ponte to increase the lead to 4-0. A single to left by Buchanan would plate Chambers to make it 5-0, and when the ball got past sophomore Devon Lindvall in left, Arriola came home with the sixth run as Buchanan moved to second. Buchanan advanced to third on a grounder to short by Koria and came home on a passed ball to make it 7-0.
The Bruins got on the board with a run in the fourth. Camuso led off with a double to left and was pinch-run for by senior Grace Murray, who scored on a single to left-center by Yudin to make it 7-1.
The Bruins and the Wildcats wrap up their three-game series on Sunday at 12 p.m. in UCLA's last home game of the regular season. Seniors Amy Crawford, Grace Murray, Monica Harrison, Donna Kerr and GiOnna DiSalvatore will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
