SAMUELS AT NO. 4 IN CAREER SCORING
Senior Josh Samuels has scored 58 goals this season, surpassing the 49 he tallied a year ago. He moved into fourth last week on the UCLA career charts with 166 goals in 105 games. Samuels needs 12 more to move into third all-time (Sean Kern, 1997-00, 177). He has now scored at least one goal in 23 of the 26 games he has played and has recorded multiple scores in 19 of those 26 contests.
2012 MPSF COACHES POLL
The UCLA men's water polo team was picked to finish second in the 2012 MPSF Coaches Preseason Poll. The Bruins received two first-place votes, and are behind No. 1 USC, which received seven first-place votes. California, Stanford and UC Santa Barbara rounded out the top five.
BRUINS HAVE NO. 2 OFFENSE AND DEFENSE
UCLA currently ranks second in the MPSF in both scoring (374 goals in 26 games, 14.38 gpg) and goals allowed (164 goals in 26 games, 6.31 gpg). USC is first in both categories, scoring 340 goals in 23 games (14.78 gpg) and giving up 120 goals in 23 games (5.22 gpg).
WRIGHT ON DECK FOR YEAR FOUR
The Bruins are led by fourth-year head coach Adam Wright, who has compiled a 88-21 (.807) record, including a 24-8 (.750) mark in MPSF action. Wright played at UCLA from 1997-2000, helping lead the Bruins to NCAA Championships in 1999 and 2000. He played for the USA National Team in the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympics, leading Team USA to a silver medal in 2008 in Beijing. Wright has played for the National Team in every major international tournament since 2001. He has guided the Bruins to two MPSF Tournament titles and runner-up finishes at the NCAA Tournament in his three seasons at the helm. In 2009 and 2011, UCLA won the MPSF Tournament title and advanced to the title match of the NCAA Tournament. Wright was named MPSF Coach of the Year in 2011 after leading UCLA to the MPSF Tournament title and a runner-up finish at the NCAA Tournament.
