Senior guard/forward Markel Walker (Philadelphia, PA/Schenley HS) of the UCLA women's basketball team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Nov. 19-25.
Walker, the Pac-12 Player of the Week, had two outstanding games this week as the Bruins hosted two NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago. On Friday, Walker scored 21 points and added nine rebounds (six offensive), four steals and three assists in the 76-64 home loss to No. 5 Notre Dame. On Sunday, she helped lead the Bruins to a 65-52 home win over Princeton with 23 points, nine rebounds (six offensive), six assists and six steals. For the week, the 6-foot-1 guard/forward averaged 22.0 points and nine rebounds while adding 4.5 assists and 5.0 steals per game. Walker is currently second in the Pac-12 in scoring (18.8 ppg), 13th in rebounding (7.3 rpg), sixth in assists (4.0 apg) and leads the league in steals (4.5 spg). She leads the Bruins in scoring, assists and steals (has almost half of UCLA's total, 18-of-40) and is third in rebounding.
This is Walker's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and fourth of her career.
