Sophomore cornerback Alterraun Verner (Carson, CA/Mayfair HS) of the UCLA football team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Oct. 15-22.
Verner, who is also the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Week, made several pivotal defensive plays in UCLA's 30-21 upset win over No. 9/10 California. He had two interceptions, including one returned 76 yards for a touchdown with 1:33 remaining in the game to clinch the win. He also broke up three passes and made six tackles, three solo, including two tackles for loss. Verner and the Bruin defense limited Cal to just 67 yards rushing and 299 yards of total offense while forcing four turnovers, including three interceptions returned for 111 yards.
This is Verner's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of his career.
