Rachael Kidder Named UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week

Sept. 27, 2011

Junior outside hitter Rachael Kidder (Moorpark, CA/Moorpark HS) of the UCLA women's volleyball team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Sept. 20-26.

Kidder established two career highs in Friday's victory against second-ranked Stanford with 30 kills and 77 attacks, and added 12 more kills in Saturday's upset win over #1 California, as seventh-ranked UCLA defeated the top two teams in the nation this weekend.

The 30 kills for Kidder marked the 38th time in UCLA history that a player posted at least 30 and the first time since Oct. 11, 2001 (Kristee Porter against Stanford). The 30 kills for the junior also tied Porter for the most in school history during the rally-scoring era, which began in '01, while Kidder's 77 attacks were the most for a Bruin in the rally-scoring era.

Kidder led the Bruins in kills in four of the five sets against the Cardinal, posting seven in the first, five in the second and nine in the fourth. But it was the fifth set where Kidder shined, as the junior scored five of the final six UCLA points of the match on kills, including the last three. She added eight digs and three solo blocks for a career-high 33 points.

Kidder added 12 kills and three more blocks, including two solo stuffs, for 14.5 points versus California. She led the Bruins with three kills in the first and five in the clinching fourth set, as she mostly played in the front row during the match.

Kidder leads the Bruins with 4.25 kills and 4.88 points per set, having posted 10-straight, double-figure kills matches.

This is Kidder's second UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and fifth of her career.
