Box Score

FULLERTON, Calif. - Freshman Dani Yudin went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a go-ahead home run in the sixth, junior Kaila Shull hit a three-run bomb and sophomore Donna Kerr and junior Megan Langenfeld combined to strike out 13 in third-ranked UCLA's 6-2 win at Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday.

The Bruins win their ninth straight, improving to 14-2 on the season, while the Titans fall to 5-7.

Kerr was mowing down the Titans for the first 3 2/3 innings, striking out seven of the first nine hitters, including six in a row at one point. But with two outs in the third, Ari Cervantes walked and Francesca Gonzales homered to left-center to put Fullerton on top 2-0.

The Bruins answered back to tie the game in the fourth. Junior Julie Burney was hit by a pitch to start off the inning and was pinch-run for by sophomore Lauren Mirabal, who immediately stole second. Freshman Andrea Harrison then walked to put two runners on base. With Yudin at the plate, Mirabal took off for third and stole it, and when the ball got away from Fullerton catcher Lauren Lupinetti, Harrison advanced to second on a wild pitch. Finding herself with a pair of runners in scoring position, Yudin cashed them both in, singling up the middle to tie the game at two.

UCLA, the nation's leading home run hitting team, went deep twice in the sixth to break the game open. Yudin led things off with her second home run of the season to right-center to give the Bruins a 3-2 lead. Sophomore Monica Harrison followed with a single to right-center, but she was erased when senior Amanda Kamekona grounded into a fielder's choice to shortstop for the first out of the inning. Sophomore Katie Schroeder then singled up the middle to put two aboard, and one out later, Shull hit her fourth homer of the year to left to put UCLA up 6-2.

Kerr improved to 7-2 on the season, striking out 10 and allowing two hits, two runs and four walks in five innings. Langenfeld retired six of the seven batters she faced, striking out three and hitting one. Monica Harrison had three of the Bruins' eight hits.

Cervantes went the distance for the Titans, allowing six runs, eight hits and five walks with nine strikeouts.
