The No. 14 UCLA swim and dive team will split for two competitions beginning on Thursday as the divers will head to Bloomington, IN for the Hoosierland Invite and the swimmers will compete at the Nike Cup in Long Beach. Both meets will begin on Thursday and end on Saturday.
A full team of divers will compete in Bloomington as they have already had a great start to the season. Led by All-Americans Marisa Samaniego and Tess Schofield, the team is ready for their first major test of the season.
Samaniego has started the season off in very strong fashion as she has notched wins on five of six boards. Schofield has also done well as she won her first tower competition of the season a few weeks back.
One-meter will be contested on Thursday, with three-meter running on Friday and the tower event wrapping competition up on Saturday. There are around 40 athletes entered in the springboard events and roughly 20-25 on tower.
"There are some really good teams here and it will be good to see how we match up with some of the better teams in the country," said dive coach Tom Stebbins. "We will also get our first look at Cal who we will face in February.
"Marisa and Tess have had a great start to the year and we will look to continue that this weekend."
The swimmers will compete in their first invitational of the season as they have solely competed in dual meets up until Thursday. All of the team will compete as the Bruins prepare for the Short Course National Championships in late November.
Anna Poteete leads the way as she has posted wins in every dual meet this season. With a team comprised of 10 freshmen, the Bruins will use this meet to bring more racing experience to the youth of the team.
